Lubbock, TX – The Red Raiders continue conference play at the United Spirit Arena on Wednesday, January 16 against the #11 Texas A&M Aggies. The 8:30 PM (CT) game will be televised on ESPN2. Ron Franklin will call the play-by-play. Fran Fraschilla and Bill Raftery will provide the game analysis. The sideline reporter will be Holly Rowe.
Mark Finkner will call the courtside action along with Corky Oglesby as analyst on the Texas Tech Sports Network local stations KQBR-FM 99.5 and KKAM-AM 1340.
Texas Tech and Texas A&M are meeting for the 116th time since the series began on December 17, 1941. The Red Raiders lead the series 62-53. Texas Tech has a 35-17 edge when the teams have played in Lubbock and a 5-4 margin on neutral courts. Texas A&M leads the series in College Station, 32-22. Last season, the Raiders defeated the Aggies (70-68) at home on January 24. Texas Tech also won the game in College Station (77-75) on February 13.
Texas A&M is 15-1 for the season and won their opening conference game against Colorado, 86-69. The Aggies have three players averaging double figures in Josh Cater (13.6), Joseph Jones (11.3), and DeAndre Jordan (10.5). The Aggies are 10th in the AP rankings and 9th in the ESPN/USA Poll.
Texas Tech is 9-6 for the season and dropped their opening conference game at Oklahoma State, 74-55. The Red Raiders also have three players averaging double-figures with Martin Zeno (16.1), Alan Voskuil (12.7), and John Roberson (12.0). Martin Zeno’s 16.5 ppg is seventh among conference players while Alan Voksuil leads the conference in three-point field goal percentage at .579 (33-for-57).
Texas Tech won their three homes games at the United Spirit Arena during the holiday season. On December 29, the Red Raiders topped Northwestern State (95-71) and then edged Lamar on New Year’s Day, 79-77. Texas Tech beat the UTEP Miners on January 5, 75-68.
Oklahoma will be next conference opponent for Texas Tech. The Red Raiders travel to Norman, Oklahoma to face the Sooners on Saturday, January 19. The game at the Lloyd Noble Center will tip-off at 3:00 PM (CT) on ESPN Plus.
