LUBBOCK, TX -- A late November ice and snow storm created problems for the Lubbock-area cotton harvest. According to Plains Cotton Growers farmers had to “stay out of the field for more than a week.”

The good news seems to have outweighed the bad; the precipitation was much needed as Lubbock is still in severe drought according to the USDA and other federal agencies.

PCG’s website said on Friday, “In terms of quality, little effect on color is expected from the late-season precipitation.”

“At this point, about 70 to 80 percent of the High Plains crop has been harvested,” PCG said.

Every year, cotton has a multi-billion dollar impact on the greater Lubbock area.
