LUBBOCK, TX -- Every year, cotton has a multi-billion dollar impact on the greater Lubbock area. Many aspects of the cotton crop went well this year including the color quality. However, according to Lubbock-based Plains Cotton Growers, frost might have damaged the cotton fibers as measured by micronaire which is the size of the cross section of fibers.

On Friday, PCG said, “Some gins in Lubbock County are reported to be at 75 percent completion, with most others in the region nearing or past the halfway point.”

It’s a good thing most of the work is done because bad weather will be a setback for the remaining harvest.

PCG said, “Freezing rain and snow will put a halt to harvesting activity throughout the weekend and into the first part of Thanksgiving week.”
