The Drought Monitor shows improvement in the areas around Lubbock with a handful of nearby counties now in severe drought instead of extreme drought. Portions of Floyd County were in exceptional drought during the third week of November. Now Floyd County is shown in extreme drought – which is a slight improvement.
Year-to-date Lubbock has officially recorded 12.01 inches of rainfall, according to the National Weather Service. The normal would be 18.34 and the NWS says Lubbock is 6.33 inches below normal for this year.
