LUBBOCK, TX -- Texas Tech has partnered with local and state agriculture organizations to put on a Farm Bill Impact Forum, Monday. The goal is to help producers or anyone involved in the industry be better prepared to make decisions under the new bill.

"There's a lot of options, but those options have lots of decisions that go with them so its helpful to understand those," said Darren Hudson, Combest Chair of Ag Competitiveness at Texas Tech.

On Monday, he'll be one of three agricultural experts speaking at a farm bill impact forum.

"We'll try to cover the full gambit of all the things that most of the regional producers are likely  to be impacted by. And then we'll have of course a question and answer session that will allow people the opportunity to ask some questions," he said.

The panel will discuss changes in crop and conservation policies including things like risk management and crop insurance.

"Sort of the overall change in the farm bill has gone from a farm bill that was sort of centered on direct payments and other kinds of payment programs to a more insurance centric bill," said Hudson. "In large part where they are going to spend most of their time after the initial decision making process is with a crop insurance agent, and so you know I think one of the things we've tried to stress is if you don't have a crop insurance agent that you trust you should find one."

This is not the first local forum offered on the topic. Hudson says there have been at least three others, all well attended.

"I think a lot of people are interested in this its a big change in farm policy and its something that people have been waiting on for a long time," he said.

The forum will be at the Texas Tech International Cultural Center at 601 Indiana Avenue Monday March 24th at 2:00 PM. The event is free and open to the public. If you cannot attend in person, you can follow online with the hashtag #farmbillttu.
