A devastating fire Wednesday night destroyed part of the Tahoka Animal Shelter and killed seven cats.
All the cats were younger than one-years-old and the youngest, was 4 months, "Baby Gray."
Today- two local groups are stepping up to help them in the re-building process.
The Lubbock Area Foundation donated $5,000 and the Lynn County Harvest Festival Committee donated $2,000.
"It puts a warm spot in your heart," says Susan Tipton, treasurer of the Lynn County Harvest Festival. "It's very rewarding."
"We are delighted we could do it and we hope that these cats in the future will have a safe place for medications and vaccinations," says Sheryl Cates, president of Lubbock Area Foundation. "We wanna make sure they have a safe place right now."
The area that was lost was used for adoptions, puppy play pins medications, and vaccinations.
In the past 24 hours, the shelter says they are overwhelmed by all of the support.
"We are small but we've got big hearts," says Ashlee West, Director of Animal Services for Lynn County Sheriffs office. "And what we lack in size we make up for in spirit."
West says they are getting donations from everywhere, including one from Chicago.
"There's a lot to be said for a community coming together this quickly and having so much support from everybody. It's just heartwarming and touching. It makes the days easier after thinking of everything we have lost."
