A Dallas woman says she's doing whatever it takes to win the custody of her great-nephew, one of Dave and Wonda Dixon's ten adoptive children.

The Dixons were arrested last month here in Lubbock on charges of child abuse.

Irene Barrera is the biological great-aunt of one of the Dixons' children. She always has custody of the boy's three biological siblings.

But, Barrera claims that Child Protective Services never contacted their family when that child was put up for adoption years ago. Not alerting the biological family of adoption is against CPS protocol.

After hearing about the the Dixon's arrest, Barrera says she frantically tried to contact CPS to check on her great-nephew's welfare. She says CPS refused to give her any information.

With the Dixons due back in court this week, Barrera says she's ready to do whatever it takes to reunite the family. She'll be traveling to Lubbock to attend Wednesday's hearing.

"We don't really know what to expect, so I'm going go down there, but not leaving until I get some answers," Barrera tells us. "If they take the parental rights we're going try and talk to CPS because we want him, before they put him up for adoption."

Barrera says she'll lawyer up, if the Dixons are allowed to keep their parental rights.

"Well, I guess we'll go straight from the courthouse to a lawyer and see what our options are."
