LUBBOCK, TX - The Lubbock Police Department confirmed one person was hit by a car and killed Tuesday night.
According to a news release from the department Tuesday night, Accident Investigators with the Lubbock Police Department were called to the 4400 block of 43rd Street. The initial call was a child who was hit by a car.
Tuesday night, Lubbock police said the investigation is in the preliminary stages. Here's a link to the initial release from LPD.
Early Wednesday morning, the Lubbock Police Department confirmed one person was killed.
A police report and statement were released just before 10:00 am. The police report said the name of the child was Damion Mendoza.

LPD Investigating Child’s Death
(LUBBOCK, TX) – Officers with the Accident Investigation Unit are investigating the death of a child who was struck by a pickup truck around 7 p.m. on Tuesday.
Through the initial investigation, it appears a man went to a home in the area of 4400 43rd Street to look at a car for sale. During this time, children were playing in the front yard.
The man, who had parked the pickup truck along the curb, got into the vehicle to leave. At some point, it appears the 18-month-old went into the roadway in front of the truck.
The child was struck as the pickup began to move forward. The driver, along with a relative of the child, immediately transported the child to the hospital.
The child was later pronounced deceased at the hospital.
At this time, all involved parties are cooperating with investigators. This case remains under investigation by the LPD Accident Investigation Unit.
