(City of Lubbock Release)

District 1 Councilmember Victor Hernandez has been apprised of and is monitoring the waste salt water spill that occurred in an area off East Loyola and I-27. The Texas Railroad Commission and the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) are the lead agencies in overseeing the remediation and clean-up of the spill, and Councilmember Hernandez will continue to receive information throughout this process.

An estimated 17,000 gallons of waste salt water with traces of crude oil leaked from a high pressure line feeding a salt water disposal well. This salt water is a normal by-product of crude oil production. Representatives from the TCEQ, the Texas Railroad Commission, and the City of Lubbock are working with company officials on a cleanup plan.
