DPS Opens New Regional Office

LUBBOCK,TX- The state has a new office in town and it is officially open for business. 

The Department of Public Safety Region 5 Crime Lab had its' grand opening Wednesday morning. 

On hand were state representatives John Frullo, Charles Perry and Robert Duncan, who helped raise the funds for the $24 million project. 

Sergeant Bryan Witt said one of the best editions is the new 18,500 sq ft crime lab, which is about four times the size of their last one. 

They will be able to process fibers, DNA, firearms and vehicles. 

Witt said they will be able to process more cases and they will be able to do it faster. 

Charles Perry said it used to take about two years for DNA evidence in a sexual assault case, now it will take analysts three to six months. 

The regional office covers 71 counties in the South Plains and panhandle.
