Fire crews are on the scene of a 2-alarm fire near 19th and Quaker.

The fire started at the Green Gables Apartments at 4406 20th Street.

We're told Lubbock Fire Engine #7 was headed back to it's station at 2nd and Slide, when firefighters inside noticed smoke coming from the area.

The crew was on the scene of the fire just one minute later.

Officials there tell us the apartments are vacant and that the Lubbock Fire Department has been using the structure for training during the last few months.

Investigators with the Lubbock Fire Marshal's Office are on the scene.

No word on what caused the fire, but officials say it appears suspicious.

The Green Gables Apartments were scheduled to be demolished later this month.
