Former U.M.C. Vice-president Sentenced

U.S. District Judge Sam R. Cummings sentenced former University Medical Center executive Greg Bruce to 51 months (four years and three months) in Federal Prison Friday morning.

Bruce pleaded guilty in June of 2013 to embezzling hundreds of thousands of dollars from U.M.C.. Bruce resigned from his position there in late 2011, and admitted to submitting fake invoices worth $735,000.

Bruce had faced up to 20 years in prison plus a $250,000 fine.

Bruce has until October 25th to report to a federal prison in Seagoville, where he requested to be placed.

As part of his punishment Bruce will have to pay back all of the money to UMC.

Bruce has already surrendered his retirment fund to the government as temporary restitution.

Bruce was well dressed and clean shaven for his sentincing sitting close to his attorney Dan Hurley who had no comment at the end of the session.

During a recess Bruce gave hugs to many spectators in the court room and shared a word with Mayor Glen Robertson and former City Manager LeeAnn Dumbould. 

During his emotional statement to the court Bruce said through tears "To UMC, my friends, family, colleagues and community saying sorry falls woefully short."
