(LUBBOCK, TX) - A local company donated its time and materials to update a Ransom Canyon kitchen.
The makeover is now complete and it's changed one family's life in more ways than one.
Brooke Phillips turned to Dream Maker Bath and Kitchen in September for a complete kitchen overhaul.
"What was supposed to be like a two week process, actually turned into like a three and a half week process," she said.
But not just for an aesthetic update.
Brook's daughter, Katie, has a rare genetic disease called Prader Willi Syndrome.
It's a condition that leaves her with a chronic feeling of hunger and the possibility of life-threating obesity.
"They food seek and they look in the trash cans and they look in the closets and they will get up in the middle of the night and just eat and eat and you just won't know and their stomachs will explode and they'll die," Brooke explained.
Dream Maker saw the seriousness of the situation and signed up to save Katie's life.
They updated the countertops, installed new flooring, cabinet doors that don't slam and can only be unlocked with a special key.
There's also a new pantry that is so safe, you need a code to get in.
"I just look at the kitchen all the time and I just say to myself, think to myself, we're so lucky they chose us and I still wish I could find a way to give back to them what they've given to us," Brooke said.
