The Lubbock Lions Club has been raising money with their Pancake Festival since 1952 and Mike Massengale, Pancake Festival Co-Chair, said it all goes back out into the South Plains.

"The 62nd annual pancake festival has become a staple in this community. Really, what makes it popular is we serve over 18,000 people from the Lubbock area. So people from all around the surrounding counties and within the community of Lubbock come out to support us and get behind us."

Admission to the Pancake Festival gets you unlimited pancakes and sausage links and Massengale said they add up very quickly.

"Just to take a quick example, sausage links, we'll serve over 72 thousand links. Pancake mix will be about 5,625 pounds...and I can go on and on and on with all different numbers but really I could just tell you, it's a lot."

Lions club members serve the food but local celebrities also flip some pancakes.

"Different radio personalities, TV personalities, we'll have some politicians of course. They always think they're VIP although they work for us."

The pancakes are the main event but Massengale said there will be other family friendly activities.

"It is a pancake festival so we will have face painting, tattoos, popcorn for sale, cotton candy, so it's not just pancakes and sausage, it is a festival and it is fun for the whole family."

The money raised will go to local charities and to their Texas Lions Camp for children with disabilities.

Massengale said the past five festivals have raised between 92 and 98 thousand dollars each year but this year they want to break the bank.

"Our goal this year is to break that six figure mark and get over the 100 thousand dollar mark. Really so we can really pour the money into the community and really give it back because we feel so blessed and we want to help those that are less fortunate."

The Pancake Festival is Saturday February 22nd from 7 am to 8 pm at the Lubbock Memorial Civic Center.

Tickets for the Pancake Festival can be purchased online at ahead of time for 5 dollars or at the gate for 6 dollars.

This year the Lions Club is also selling 2 slices of bacon for 1 dollar while supplies last.
