LUBBCOK, TX-It happened on north Frankford.

28 year old Kyle Farris was driving his motorcycle, when he was hit by a car.

“I was headed to work and don’t remember much after that,” Farris said.  “[I] woke up in the hospital a couple of weeks later.

For his fiancé Kelly Henning, it was her worst nightmare.

“It was terrifying,” Henning said. “I was shaking and didn’t know what to d. I just ran to the hospital as fast as I could.”

Farris was in a medical induced coma for 10 days

“[I had] a lot of broken bones,” Farris said. “I broke my ankle, my left leg. I’ve got a plate in my ankle and a rod in my left leg, lacerated a kidney.”

Farris spent a month in the hospital.

It took six more weeks before he could walk again.

He said he still has aches and pains, but each day it gets a little better.

In the mean time, Farris and Henning had to push back their wedding, and their dreams.

Before his accident Farris had planned on buying and opening his own restaurant.

Now six months after his accident, Farris and Aenning are cooking up BBQ, at The Shack.

“We’ve had huge support from family and friends,” Farris said.

They opened shop on Wednesday, and so far say business has been good.

“You can’t claim that you make better BBQ or different BBQ from others,” Farris said. “But we do make all our own rubs; we make our own sauce, house made, and everything from scratch.”

They keep everything local, buying supplies and goods from local vendors; they say that is part of their secret recipe to success.

“Were just going to keep it small and keep the food good and fresh and try and feed a lot of people,” Farris said.

“We’re hoping to max out our smoker and have people come in here fighting for our food,” Henning said.

The Shack can be found at 2309 N. Frankford Avenue, and they are open Wednesday through Sunday from 11 a.m. until they run out.
