Former Texas Tech quarterback Baker Mayfield's appeal to transfer to the University of Oklahoma without restrictions was denied by Texas Tech on Friday.

Texas Tech released the following statement from Brian Shannon, law professor, saying, “On Friday, Jan. 10, a panel of Texas Tech’s Athletics Council heard Baker Mayfield’s appeal concerning the denial of permission to contact and the one-time transfer exception with regard to the University of Oklahoma. The five-member panel unanimously upheld the head coach’s decision and denied Baker’s appeal. The decision was consistent with Texas Tech policy regarding intra-conference transfers and consistent with NCAA rules.”

If Mayfield walks on at Oklahoma he must sit out next season and would also lose a year of eligibility.

He said in an interview with ESPN.com earlier this week he would consider looking at other schools if his appeal was rejected.
