Men's Tennis Jumps to No. 27 in Latest ITA Poll

LUBBOCK, Texas – The Texas Tech Red Raiders jumped up to 27th this week from No. 37 in this week’s Intercollegiate Tennis Association Top 75 Poll, after upsetting then-No. 24 Oklahoma State on Friday.
The No. 27 ranking marks the 10th consecutive season that the Red Raiders have appeared in the top 30 of the ITA rankings.
In all, the Red Raiders have been ranked in the ITA Top 75 Since March 14, 2002. It is a span of 313 dual matches over 12 seasons.
Individually, Hugo Dojas and Felipe Soares inched up the ladder, as Dojas is No. 100 nationally, while Soares is No. 108.
Dojas, a sophomore from Brazil, is 17-11 on the season, including 11-7 at No. 2 singles this season. Dojas is 2-4 against players currently ranked in the ITA Top 125. Earlier this year, he beat Texas A&M’s Harrison Adams and took the No. 1 player in the nation, Clay Thompson to a third set before the match was abandoned.
Soares, a sophomore from Brazil, is 20-8 on the season, including 12-6 at No. 1 singles this season. He is 6-6 against players currently ranked in the ITA Top 125. This past weekend, Soares dropped then-No. 68 Jakob Sude of Oklahoma State, 6-3, 6-7 (8-10), 6-3, before falling in a third set to No. 6 Axel Alvarez Llams of Oklahoma, 3-6, 6-4, 1-0 (10-5). It was just the sixth time this season that Alvarez Llamas has gone to three sets this season.
Texas Tech will close out the regular season this weekend, as the Red Raiders host No. 56 TCU on Friday at 6 p.m. and No. 7 Texas on Saturday at 6 p.m.
