LUBBOCK, TX -- A driver was killed in an officer-involved shooting Sunday morning. A DPS trooper made a traffic stop along Hwy 87 south of 82nd Street around 5:00 AM. The driver did not identify themselves and was being placed under arrest. The driver then fought the trooper. The trooper shot the driver, who was pronounced dead at UMC. There were two other subjects in the vehicle at the time of the stop.
Here is a statement from Corporal John Gonzalez.
"Approximately 5:00 am this morning one of our female troopers conducted a traffic stop on the east service road of US 87 just south of 82nd street. Three subjects were in the 4-door Cadillac. Upon initial contact the driver failed to identify themselves to the trooper. The trooper placed the driver under arrest. During the arrest the driver did fight with the trooper. The trooper did shoot the suspect. The driver was transported to UMC and pronounced deceased at UMC. There are no names given at this time. The Rangers are conducting an investigation."Keep checking back for updates.
