Toys for Tots and the Angel Tree have combined this year to gather gifts for children across Lubbock but Justin Eatherly, Salvation Army Community Relations Director, said the older children are often left out.

"The older ages are really the most need that we have. We do infants all the way up through 14 year olds and that 10 to 14 year old age group is really hard to buy for."

Eatherly said the older kids don't need toys but there are still plenty of gifts you can buy.

"You know you really can't buy toys for them because they're in that young teenage group but they like other toys, maybe not toys you can play with but maybe like a football jersey or a make up kit, or a dvd collection, or a set of books for a young girl. So there's a lot of things you can buy for that group but you might not think of it when you think of toys."

Businesses can still call the Salvation Army if they would like to be a drop off spot and the Marines will need help sorting the toys.

"We always need volunteers to help sort, that's one of our biggest needs. We're at the closed United Store off Marsha Sharp and 29th and that is our toy shop for this year and we need help sorting toys there and anyone can come by and help us out as we build up to the days of distribution."

Toys for Tots registration was supposed to end weeks ago but Eatherly said they are holding one more day to make sure all eligible kids can be involved.

"Our last day of registration is going to be this Saturday December 7th from 10 to 3 at that closed United at Marsha Sharp and 29th Drive. It's our final sign up day so anybody that does need to sign up their kid or family for toys or a food voucher from the food bank needs to come see us."

Eatherly said there aren't that many people signed up right now but he anticipates a lot of people to show up for the last day of registration.

"Right now we have about 35 kids, 1400 families, we're expecting about 800 more families just from that one day."

The last day to drop off toys is Friday December 13th.

The main drop off is here at the South Plains Mall but you can find a full list of drop off locations at

Toys will be distributed at the old United location at Marsha Sharp and 29th on December 16th, 17th, and 18th.
