Police said an officer first responded to a call of a subject threatening another at 2800 block of Cornell Street earlier that evening, around 7:30. The officer left after speaking with the woman who called it in, but returned around 9:30 Monday evening after another call advising that one of the suspects returned to the scene armed.
When the officer returned, he approached the suspect, and was attempting to get out of his car when police say the suspect turned toward the officer and showed he had a gun, pointing it at the officer.
Police said the officer then shot the suspect multiple times before the suspect was able to shoot at the officer. The suspect died at the scene. Police have not identified the deceased, nor the officer involved.
Lubbock Police have placed the involved officer on leave as part of standard procedure as they continue to investigate.
