The Red Cross is ramping up it's fund raising and Tiffany Downing, Red Cross South Plains Regional Chapter, Major Gifts Associate said anyone can be a hero to someone in need.
"It is our national campaign for the American Red Cross and it's called the Heroes Campaign. Through this we ask individuals, businesses, pretty much anybody to raise a thousand dollars for the Red Cross and be a hero for us."
Downing said 91 cents of every dollar raised goes back into the community.
"Our Red Cross mission is to help those in need at any time. It could be from a hurricane, a tornado, but it also could be something as little as a home fire...and that money definitely goes towards helping them find a safe place to stay, and get the means for food, shelter, and even clothing sometimes."
Lubbock's "Heroes" event is Bowling for Relief at Main Event.
"For 35 dollars for our event you get unlimited glow golf, unlimited billiards, unlimited laser tag, and two slices of pizza and a drink, and your bowling time with your shoes included. So we get all this awesome stuff through Main Event and we are so glad to work with them."
Downing said there are teams of 5 with prizes for the best teams.
"Every hour we will be giving a team with the highest score a trophy and at the end of the night we'll be giving one to the team with the highest overall winner."
Even if you don't have five people, Downing encourages you to still come out.
"If you are just an individual we'll be pairing teams up with individuals that do walk in the door and you can register at any time or be a walk-in."
And what is a super hero without their disguise?
"Since this is the kick off to out heroes campaign and anybody that does pay this 35 dollars and the proceeds go to the Red Cross, is our hero. So we do want you to dress up like a hero."
Bowling for Relief is Friday February 28th from 5 to 9 pm at Main Event.
