Santa Land is a Lubbock Christmas tradition and Nancy Neill, Lubbock Parks and Recreation Indoor Recreation Coordinator, said people come back every year.

"57 years we've been doing this in Parks and Recreation with the city of Lubbock and we hear stories from the people in Lubbock how they come back every year. We've had kids come back from college in time just to make sure they see Santa Land just because it is such a family tradition."

Santa Land has nativity scenes, animated displays, and  Neill said Santa makes an appearance each night.

"We've got our entertainment normally from 6:30 to 8 o'clock each night and then of course Santa comes out here on his sleigh at 6 o'clock each night led by our wonderful fire department folks."

There are also new kids displays each year with popular movie and television characters.

"As something becomes popular with the kids they try and recreate that here so that there's always something here that the kids will recognize."

"Bo" the elf will hide in a different spot in Santa Land each night and if you spot him be sure and snap a picture!

"If you come out here and take his picture and message us on our facebook page at Lubbock Parks and Recreation then your name goes into the drawing for an ipad mini that's sponsored by Betenbough Homes."

Santa Land is a free event paid for with help from the Lubbock City Council and a large group of sponsors.

"It's through their efforts, providing the funds to do this that we're able to do it each year so we really appreciate that."

Neill said no matter how cold it is or how bad the weather gets they will be open every night.

"We're out here whether it's cold or warm. We've got our bonfires going every night so that if it is cold people can huddle around the fire and keep warm as they wait for Santa, look at the lights, and just listen to the kids laugh."

Santa Land is open December 10th through the 23rd.

There is no admission fee and you can bring your own camera to take pictures with Santa, or buy one for 5 dollars.

Santa Land is open from 6 to 10 every night with live entertainment from 6:30 to 8.

Santa Land is located in Mackenzie Park at the Broadway entrance south of Avenue A.
