LUBBOCK,TX- Tragedy strikes the town of Shallowater once again, after 37 Kirstie Watkins was killed in a car accident Tuesday in Hockley County.
Watkins was the computer teacher for Shallowater Elementary school, but school nurse Sarah Batson, said she was more than just a teacher.
"She would greet the children every morning coming in," Batson said. "She would be right by the front door smiling and hugging, you know loving on the kids as they walked into school everyday.
Batson remembers Watkins as an animal lover, but excellent hunter.
A sports fan, with an obsession with the Rangers, Texans and JJ Watts.
And she was a great supporter of her family.
Her husband Mark is an officer for the Lubbock Police Department.
Her 12 year old son, Hunter, plays baseball.
"She loved sports everything, but she loved baseball," Batson said. "She was maybe a little opinionated about baseball. She was opinionated about everything."
Batson said she and Watkins were more than just co-workers they were great friends.
Friends who loved to dress up and have a good time.
Now Batson admits she tries to follow in Watkins' footsteps, by trusting in the lord and using her faith to guide her through this tragic time.
"I know that God has a plan," Batson said. "I know we can't see it and we sure can't understand it, but what I told them is I sure don't understand how people get through this without faith, because that is the only thing getting us through right now."
Watkins funeral will be held Friday morning at 10 AM at Shallowater Baptist Church.
The family is asking that everyone where their favorite sports jersey to the funeral.
A fund has been set up at People's Bank for Watkins' family.
A donation can be made at any location, under the Kirstie Watkins Memorial Fund.
