LUBBOCK,TX- A Lubbock man received a big surprise Thursday morning, when the Lubbock Sheriff's office gave him back a gun that was stolen from his business 22 years ago.
"Get the gun back?" the gun owner Bob Bybee said. "No, I sure didn't, we had marked it off."
The gun was found a few months ago by H.I.D.T.A. (High Intensity Drug Trafficking Area) officers in a drug raid, at a house in Rio Grande City, Texas.
Bob Bybee said he bought the commemorative Colt 45 gun just a few years before it was stolen.
Bybee said he was collecting the guns and had 2 out of 3 of the battleship series.
Thursday, the U.S.S. Texas gun was returned to Bybee and his wife, Sue.
Sheriff Kelley Rowe said the reason the guns were found is because the Bybee's kept a record of the serial number, and those numbers are not taken out of the state's database until the stolen property is returned.
While Bybee said the guns are special, they were not the most special thing taken from them that day in 1992.
"Her daddy's watch, which was many, many, many years old," Bybee said. "It was the one thing we wanted more than anything"
But Sue Bybee said she still thinks it is a miracle the gun was found after all these years.
"Well I think its' miracles," Bybee said. "I mean it is the people looking after us that are doing their jobs, and they are doing them well."
