The Overton Hotel built a giant gingerbread house in hopes that Lubbock residents will come see the candy creation and donate money to the Texas Boys Ranch where Steve Warren, Director of Development, said kids find refuge.

"Kids have experienced abuse, neglect, their lives haven't been very pretty, and when they come to the Texas Boys Ranch everything changes. The world becomes a beautiful place. That's what the Overton is doing is helping remind people that the world is a good place."

The Overton staff built the gingerbread house but Director of Marketing, Marcie Reno, said the Texas Boys Ranch kids got to decorate their own Christmas treats.

"The kids came down a couple of days before we revealed the gingerbread house, they got a sneak peek at it, and then they got to decorate their own cookies and eat cookies and have hot chocolate. It's just a way for our staff to interact with the kids a little bit and remember why we are doing this."

When you come see the gingerbread house you can buy a gingerbread man ornament for a donation of five dollars or more with all the money going to the Texas Boys Ranch.

"You know for 5 dollars, 10 dollars, 25 dollars, you can help a child. And when you say five dollars what does that buy at Texas Boys Ranch? Five dollars buys five meals. So I feed a child for a day and a half off five dollars."

There are also specialty cocktails, a pumpkin trifle, and a gingerbread cake at the Pecan Grill with part of the proceeds benefiting the Texas Boys Ranch.

"When you're at the hotel, you can come down and just have dessert, but if you're having dinner those are a great option to have after dinner or a lot of the Christmas parties that we have this year are making the choice to have one of those desserts because part of those proceeds go to the Texas Boys Ranch."

"Christmas allows each of us to feel good about ourselves and to help somebody else and that's what the Overton is doing, is bringing awareness to the Texas Boys Ranch."

The Gingerbread house and trees for the gingerbread men will be at the Overton through December 31st.

The Overton New Years Eve party this year has Las Vegas Style games and all the proceeds from the games will go to the Texas Boys Ranch.
