Victim Name Released In Overnight Homicide On Lubbock's Southside

LUBBOCK, TX -- Crime scene investigators, along with personnel from the Lubbock County Medical Examiner's office, were called to the scene of a homicide early Wednesday morning.

Dispatchers received a call around 12:30 a.m. The caller reported someone had been shot.  Police responded to the 2000 block of 89th Street and found the victim on the lawn.

A photojournalist on the scene reported that several people were interviewed on the scene.  If you have any information about what happened, you're asked to call Crimeline at 741-1000.

Lubbock Police issued the following statement late Wednesday morning:

On July 30, 2014 at 12:42 a.m. officers checked the welfare of a man said to have been shot at 2023 89th Street. The victim was found lying in the grass near the front porch and pronounced deceased by medical personnel on scene. Homicide and crime scene detectives were called for follow‐up investigation. The victim Fabian Rios is believed to have been in Lubbock for about a week and was wanted for aggravated robbery in Big Springs, Texas. The cause of death is still under investigation. The suspect is believed to have fled the scene in a black Ford Explorer Sport‐Trac SUV with a small pickup bed and a New Mexico license plate.    Anyone with information please contact Crime Line at 741‐1000.
