LUBBOCK,TX-For Sergeant Bryan Witt, with the Lubbock Department of Public Safety, things are simple; do not be careless.

That is his tip for this 4th of July holiday, as his troopers hit the roadway, looking for unsafe drivers.

"DPS troopers will be on increased patrols, aimed at protecting all travelers in removing dangerous drivers from the roadway," Sgt. Witt said.

State statistics show a person dies in Texas every 20 minutes, because of alcohol related accidents.

That is why drunk driving, is their main target.

"Troopers will be focused on DWI detection in high-risk locations, in alcohol related places, like late nights around bar areas," Sgt. Witt said.

Other things they will be looking for: distracted driving, speeding, non-seat belt wearers and criminal activity.

If this year is anything like the last, a lot of folks will see red and blue lights in their rear view mirror.

"During this period in 2013, [Texas] DPS made over 1,100 DWI arrests, 720 fugitive arrests,  602 felony arrests, more than 15,000 speeding citations and more than 2,400 seat belt citations," Witt said.

His alternative to some of these issues, is to hire a car service to do the driving for you.

"It is a way to provide a safe ride and for you just to relax, kick-back, have a nice ride," Chad Hasty, owner of CEO transportation said. "We'll do the hard part, which is driving and getting you there."

CEO Transportation is a new car service in the Hub City.

Hasty said his business is the best way to get you around this Independence Day, and it will not cost you much either.

"You have someone secure that can take you and really we are a lot cheaper option than getting a ticket through DPS," Hasty said.
