The goal of the Make A Wish Foundation is simple-- to grant the wishes of children with life-threatening medical conditions.

"What would your favorite wish be? What would your one true wish be?"

Sandi Eichenberg is a wish granter for the non-profit.

On this day, she asked Alexa those questions.

"If you could have anything you wanted, what would it be?"

Alexa said, "Disney World."

To find out how Alexa got here-- to the very first step of making her wish come true, you have to go back a few years.

It began with a devastating diagnosis.

Alexa has Ospsoclonus Myoclonus Syndrome or OMS.

"Alexa was at an age where she was walking and beginning to talk and with this disease, she lost her abilities to walk, talk, pretty much any movement," Alexa's dad, Brooks said.

She's spent a lot of time in and out of hospitals receiving various treatments-- including chemotherapy.

"She definitely doesn't have a normal life. Part of her disease is if she just gets the common cold, she can end up in the hospital, so we've had years of keeping her isolated, keeping her at home away from public, away from germs," Alexa's mom, Becky said.

But her hard times are about to end, at least temporarily, thanks to the Make A Wish Foundation.

With the approval of the non-profit and the okay from her doctors, Alexa will soon be granted her wish to go to Disney.

"We could save up all the money in the world and not be able to pay for the experience that we're sure she'll get with Make A Wish," Becky said.
