LUBBOCK, TX -- A traffic stop near Post ended up with Texas DPS seizing marijuana and methamphetamine worth more than $54,000.
Around 8 Saturday morning, DPS said they stopped a car that was going more than 100 mph on Highway 84 near Post. According to Sergeant Bryan Witt with DPS, the trooper then smelled marijuana in the car, and found 10 pounds of marijuana, 31 grams of meth, and a pistol in the car.
"I think what we're seeing is the troopers taking the traffic stop beyond just a traffic stop," Sergeant Witt said.
Sergeant Witt said DPS troopers do more than just write tickets or help with accidents. This routine traffic stop for speeding ended with 33 year old Jamie Morgan Davila of Lubbock being arrested for possession of a controlled substance.
"These investigations like this don't necessarily stop with this traffic stop, sometimes they evolve into larger investigations, if we can find out where he's getting his stuff, actually who it was going to," Sergeant Witt said.
"Each one of these traffic stops can be an investigation and that's what we're trying to teach our troopers to do, to take each traffic stop and not just look at it as a speeding citation, determine if there's something else going on there," Sergeant Witt said.
