LUBBOCK, TEXAS - The Buddy Holly Performing Arts Center will be located in downtown Lubbock across the street from the Civic Center on Mac Davis Avenue.
The facility is estimated to be 217,000 square feet with an estimated budget of $146 million. Chairman of the board for the Lubbock Economic Development Alliance, Tim Collins, said there are multiple entities to the project and there's been an extensive design process.
"We haven't been in the public's eye in the last few months but that's because the work behind the scenes has been so intense but we think we'll get there soon," Collins said. "Our budget includes the construction, furniture, equipment and design. We've almost completed all of the design so we're ready for construction."
LEDA has been working hand in hand with LEPPA, Diamond Schmitt Architects, Lee Lewis Construction, and multiple other companies who have spent endless hours designing a venue unlike anything Lubbock has ever seen.
"The rating for this building is NC-15 and that is the highest acoustic value for a performance hall," Collins said. "Bass Hall, Lincoln Center, those kind of facilities have that kind of quality."
The facility will have two theaters, an elaborate spiral staircase, bistro, ballet studio, and even a wall of guitar picks in the shape of Buddy Holly.
"We feel like sometime in the spring we'll get to announce that date and get started, that's what we're working towards," Collins said.
