LUBBOCK, TX -- A couple said they are saddened and disturbed after finding a dead dog in their dumpster. Some images in the video may be disturbing to some viewers.
Rick Bilbrey said he found the dog in his dumpster Wednesday when he went to put some grass clippings in it. When he opened the lid, he found the dog dead inside.
The dog had a plastic bag over its head and torso. It is unclear exactly how the dog died or who put the dog in the dumpster.
Rick said that he did recognize the dog, having seen it run around in the area, but he said the dog usually kept to himself.
Rick and his wife Ellie said that because the dog had the bag covering half of it, they're afraid that the dog was strangled or killed somehow before it was put in the dumpster. They are not sure, however, exactly how the dog died.
"I think that is very sadistic, you know, very bad, to do that to a dog, cause he's somebody's dog," Ellie said.
"That's sad and sickening," Rick said. "That poor thing could have been alive and suffocated and I just feel sorry for it."
"I think it's an injustice to animals, you know, people, if they don't want animals, don't get them," she said.
Lubbock Animal Services said that it is actually against City Ordinance to put a dead animal in the dumpster or to bury one within the city limits. Animal Services said that if you have a pet that dies, or you find a dead animal, you should call Animal Services and they will come out to take care of it. They can be reached by dialing 311.
