LUBBOCK, TX -- Plenty of people spent part of Friday evening out at the Canyon Lakes, looking to enjoy the beautiful, clear weather while still being careful in the heat.
Some were there to exercise, while others wanted to fish or enjoy time near the water. Either way, the lake there seemed to bring some relief to the heat Friday.
Plenty of people spent part of Friday evening out at the Canyon Lakes, looking to enjoy the beautiful, clear weather while still being careful in the heat.
"It feels nice over here, it's got a little breeze coming off the water, and stuff, so it's nice right here," Matthew Fillmore said. He was there with family, enjoying a chance to get out and feed the birds in the lake.
Not only for Fillmore, but others noted that time played a big part in when they chose to head out to the park.
"Come out here a little later because we knew it would be a little cooler," Fillmore said.
Melody Sandell said she usually rides in the park Mondays and Fridays. This week, her Friday ride happened just after 6, which she said was about an hour earlier than she normally rides. In Friday's heat, that meant having to make some adjustments.
"We went a little bit slower, yeah, had to go slower," Sandell said.
"It was hot, I was finished with my water bottle before I got back to the truck," she said.
Many also said since the temperatures are supposed to stay pretty high for the weekend, they would be spending the time inside, or if they had to go out, making sure they had plenty of water and sunscreen.
