LUBBOCK, TX-- Family and friends of Matthew Valadez, 38, who was killed on July 15 by a hit and run driver, created an online petition.
Valadez was struck by a vehicle operated by Maria Martinez.
A grand jury indicted Martinez, 27, for failure to stop and render aid in the deadly collision that killed Valadez of Lubbock. Police said Valdez was jogging near 20th Street and Iola when he was struck and killed by someone driving a Nissan Xterra. The driver did not stop, police said.
Michael Fensterbush created an online petition at the petition site dot com asking for over 1,000 signatures in order for Martinez to not have a plea bargain.
Fensterbush says he knows Valadez would stand up for him if needed, so he wants to make sure he seeks justice for Valadez.
Martinez was arrested on July 17 and posted bond to get out of jail. If convicted Martinez would face a maximum penalty of 20 years in prison.
