TAHOKA, TX -- On July 31, 2011, Robert Balderrama was found dead in a field in southeast Lynn County, and three years later, his family and investigators are still looking for answers.
Balderrama had been reported missing on the morning of July 31, 2011, and hours later, he was found dead. Investigators said Balderrama was found shot to death in a field near O'Donnell.
The family said that Balderrama and his wife, Lydia, had just gotten remarried two days before this happened. Three years later, they still don't have answers about exactly what happened, and how Balderrama ended up dead.
"We don't know why, you know, we don't know who, we don't know what he was doing in O'Donnell to begin with, what he was doing out on that road, who he was meeting, we don't have those answers," Angelinda Mendez, Balderrama's daughter, said. "We have ideas and things that you can think of, but nothing that we can say, ok this is what happened to my dad."
The family said they hope by talking about Balderrama and sharing his memory, that someone will hear about this and come forward with information that could close the case.
"I just ask that any of you that know anything, to come forward. I've already forgiven you, and I ask that you forgive yourself, and come forward so we can all put this past us, so that we can have the answers and the closure that we need to move on," Mendez said.
The Lynn County Sheriff's Office and the Texas Rangers are still investigating. A lieutenant with the Lynn County Sheriff's Office said that they believe whoever did this to Balderrama knew him. They ask anyone with information in this case to call the Lynn County Sheriff's Office at (806)561-4505.
