LUBBOCK, TX--- One local group is speaking out-- saying they want city council to get serious about spending and the citizens of Lubbock to have a real voice.

The South Plains Advocates for Freedom band together today in front of city hall.
The say they want to increase the accountability and transparency of city council, so lubbock citizens can take back their power.

"The public needs to be more involved in decision making here," says Mikel Ward with the SPAF.

She says she and others in her groups feel Lubbock City Council isn't listening.

"The public is pretty frustrated it seems it hasn't really subsided."

With a petition-- they're calling for city council to prioritize their spending and stop spending money on special interest groups like 'Imagine Lubbock Together' and the North East Lubbock Community Development Corporation.
"There's a lot of these public private partnerships where we put public tax dollars in one end and private entities are taking profits off the other end."
Ward says many of the values her groups supports falls in line with Mayor Glen Robertson's running platform a few years ago.
A platform a few city council candidates are sticking too.

City council candidate Lana Bear Moore, who has been working with South Plains Advocates for Freedom says, her campaign is about transparency.

"I dont want to continue going down the road that we're going on. Its not good and its not good for the citizens its not good for the council and mostly its not good for Lubbock," Moore says.

The South Plains Advocates for Freedom now has a petition out that Mikel Ward says they will present to the new city council after elections.
