Local Law Enforcement Remembered
By Joshua Cole Little
LUBBOCK, TX--- Friday morning, the men and women who have lost their lives while serving to protect our city and county were remembered at the Peace Officer ceremony. The event held every two years, brings together law enforcement, family and friends to remember the eleven officers who have passed.
Among those present was Jina Fowler. Her husband served for 35 years and was killed in the line of duty in 1992.
"We dont want these men to ever be forgotten," says Fowler. "My husband was an officer when we married. So that's all I know, is part of this cop family."
Even with her husband gone, she still looks to that family of law enforcement for support. Lubbock County Sheriff Kelly Rowe says he can relate and understands the support.
"We always want them to know we are here to support them," says Rowe.
As Taps played, you could feel the emotion from every officer and family member remembering.
"What's imporant that we always look to those oportunities to keep that promise that we never forget," says Rowe.
For Fowler, she says these ceremonies are about having respect for those who serve.
"That's what I tell everybody. Have respect," says Fowler.
"We want to recognize and always remember the sacrifices these individuals made," says Rowe.
