LUBBOCK- 16 year old Mariah Leon started boxing at the Boys and Girls club when she was 8 years old.
Now, 8 years later, she holds several national titles.
"I guess when I'm up there in the ring I just feel like I have all the attention on me and I feel like I'm somebody, like people love me," said Leon.
Leon is about 120 pounds, petite, pretty, and takes no prisoners in the boxing ring.
"I make sure if I get punched I give it to them 10 times harder," said Leon.
Saturday in Reno, Nevada, Leon claimed a national title at the USA Women's Boxing Championship, beating out 3 other girls in her weight class.
"I pushed it," said Leon. "I was really tired from fighting so many days. But, the one that pushed me- God. God helped me so much. If it wasn't for him I wouldn't even have this talent. He gave it to me to win. He led me to victory."
Leon's coach, Edward Hernandez, has been with Leon for the past 5 years.
"She is the one that shows the most promise and has accomplished the most and has been the most dedicated individual that we've had in the gym," said Hernandez.
Hernandez said that dedication is what won Leon the championship.
Now, Hernandez and her coach are looking toward the future, to even bigger goals.
"Her desire has always been to compete in the Olympics," said Hernandez.
The national title earned Leon a spot on the USA International Boxing Team.
