Luke Siegel Turns 11, Family Calls on Community to Give Back

LUBBOCK, TX - April 18 is Luke Siegel's eleventh birthday, and to help them celebrate, the Siegel family is calling on the community to give back through the foundation established in his honor.

The Team Luke Foundation was started up in January by Luke's father, Tim, who says its mission is to help other families whose children have suffered an anoxic or traumatic brain injury.

"If I can help someone both the way that they see things now and also with golf cart safety then then my mission is certainly accomplishing something, but ultimately it's about helping families that have injuries like ours," said Siegel.

On July 18, 2015, Luke was in a golf cart accident that left him with severe head trauma, multiple fractures and collapsed lungs. Today, Luke's dad shared that he's doing better in therapy, improving his head movement and is swallowing better.

"When people talk about the new normal, there's nothing normal about this, but it's our life now," said Siegel. "My goal is certainly to see Luke continue to improve, and I know that the two reasons why I believe he is improving is because he's an incredible competitor. He works hard, he fights hard. And then just people like you and everyone else in this community that have offered their prayers and support and I believe that makes a big difference."

Luke's 11th birthday rang in with various posts from the community to the Pray For Luke Siegel Facebook page all wishing Luke a happy birthday. If you'd like to celebrate Luke, all it takes is a dollar.

From now until Thursday, the foundation is calling on the community to participate in the "Birthday Bucks" for Team Luke by donating one dollar to McGavock Nissan on Milwaukee and 66th, or Cardinals on the South Loop and Slide or online at teamlukefoundation.com.
