LUBBOCK, TX -- A Lubbock Police officer was injured Friday afternoon.
According to Sergeant Jason Lewis with Lubbock Police, the officer involved was waiting to serve a warrant, and saw the two people get into a car. He then pulled them over for a traffic stop.
Lewis said the male then got out of the car and took off running. The officer then chased that male. Eventually, the officer was hit by the female who was then driving the car, according to police, around the area of 52nd and Utica.
"The one suspect that got out and fled and he was chasing that suspect on foot when the other suspect in the vehicle ran him over," Sergeant Jason Lewis said.
The male suspect was taken into custody at a near by apartment, which Lewis said the man did not have access to, and was trying to force his way inside.
"Male subject from the vehicle ended up in an apartment where he was apprehended," Sergeant Lewis said.
The female, police say, left that scene near 52nd and Utica and was eventually taken into custody around 33rd and Quaker. It is not clear at this time how the female got there.
LPD was assisted by DPS, as well as the Lubbock Sheriff's Office Friday during the search.
"You know, it's nice to see the support to help find the suspect," Sergeant Lewis said. "Everybody really pitched in and we're fortunate around here that everybody pitches in and helps each other."
Police said the two were taken into custody on unrelated charges.
The officer was taken to the hospital with serious injuries.
Police have not yet released the names of the suspects.
For hours Friday, traffic was blocked off all around the area of 52nd and Utica not only because of the accident, but also as police searched for the suspects. The area has since been reopened to traffic.
Updated 3:55 pm- LPD has taken the male suspect into custody. They found him hiding in a nearby apartment. They are still searching backyards and apartment complexes for the female suspect.
Updated 3:40 pm- DPS helicopters and police dogs have been called out to aide in the search.
The injured officer has been taken to UMC.
Police have moved the search south to the Driftwood and Omni Apartments.
A Lubbock police officer was hit by a suspect's vehicle Friday afternoon during a chase through central Lubbock.
EMS was sent to the area of 53rd and Utica.
Police believe the officer was critically injured after he asked the suspect to stop 'or he would shoot'.
The chase started around 52nd and Slide and when the suspect refused to stop a brief car chase started.
The chase stopped around 53rd and Utica police say the suspect has left the car and was seen running through the Lakeview Apartments.
Police believe the man could be armed.
The believe another suspect, a woman wearing tight white pants was also in the vehicle at the time.
