LUBBOCK, TX - This morning, the Museum of Texas Tech University hosted "The Prom of Your Dreams" for nearly 250 special needs students from all across the South Plains.
“I just love everything about it. We all kind of have been teary eyed today, getting it all ready. Because it's just a special event for these kids and they're always so excited about doing it,” Denise Kirby, the Director for Special Ed Selco said.
The prom was coordinated by several sponsors and volunteers who also came out to enjoy the fun. Kirby said it not only helps the teens socialize, but they also get to enjoy the thrill of going to prom.
“We actually have kids from Roosevelt ISD and also from Slaton ISD here helping us today. They're typically developing peers, and they will be here to mingle with the kids and get them out on the dance floor and just let them have fun,” Kirby said.
Other sponsors of the event include the Southwest Lubbock County Shared Services Arrangement in partnership with the Museum of Texas Tech University, Klemke's Sausage Haus and Purple Tie Limo Company.
