Start Something with Big Brothers Big Sisters of Lubbock
LUBBOCK, TX--- So many kids are positively impacted by Lubbock's Big Brothers Big Sisters, but there are still many who don't have a mentor yet.
There more than 100 boys specifically that don't have a match yet.
"He'll call me and tell me how he hasn't gotten in trouble recently which is awesome great conversation to have," says Farshad Marban, who in between classes, sports, and work, has been volunteering with Big Brothers Big Sisters of Lubbock for two years now.
He says watching his 'little brother' has been amazing but a humbling experience.
"You see him progress, you see it... We hang out all the time whenever I have time even I dont I try to prioritize him because you'll love it."
Its these bonds that Lubbock director Cindy Miller wants to see for more than 100 boys waiting for a 'big brother' to come along.
"For our volunteers to want to come and spend time with them and just to be a good friend it means the world to these kids.... I think the main thing that I really want people to know is the little amount of time it takes to make such a huge impact," Miller says.
"They say I dont know how I'm going to relate to these kids or people like that. They'll match you up with the person, with somebody that you will be successful with," says Marzban.
For Farshad, knowing he's changing his 'little's' life makes it all worth it. Whether its helping with homework, going to the theatre, or playing basketball.
"Then he goes hes going to shoot for this family and his brothers and he says his brother's name and my name. And that was the most touching thing i've ever been a part of. It really just warmed my heart."
Both Marzban and Miller say there are so many ways you can impact a kids life.
Miller suggests visiting them during lunch or find something that you enjoy doing and get them to hang out.
