The Man Behind The Texas Tech Fanefare

He wrote the music over 50 years ago and it's still played today

LUBBOCK, TX - The Texas Tech football season is right around the corner, with the first game on Saturday, September 2, rallying several students to the stands. Dick Tolley, the artist behind the Texas Tech Fanfare and Ride Raider Ride, said the students motivated him to create them.

“The college game is for the students, the pros no, but the college game is for the students and this is apart for the students. They all rally around it. I've heard a lot of people say they they love when the horse runs around to it. Of course they love the Red Raider cheer, it gets everybody up,” Tolley said.

Tolley said he started playing the trumpet when he was just eight years old. He said he attends almost every football game he can to support Tech and hearing his music being played by the band never gets old.

“Oh yes. It’s really a lot of pride to hear that being played you know? Its over 50 years old now, so it's a great memory for me,” Tolley said.
