LUBBOCK, TX - During the week of Nov. 13 -17, the Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center will celebrate its Philanthropy Awareness Week which aims to educate its students and alumni about the benefits of philanthropy.
The week-long celebration gives special thanks to the:
- Approximately 5,000 donors who have generously donated more than $70 million to the Health Sciences Center's community
- The more than 900 donors who have contributed nearly $15 million for research
- Those who make it possible to award more than 6,100 scholarships to TTUHSC students
The week-long event has been celebrated across all of the TTUHSC campuses and can be spotted by the gift tags, door signs, ribbons and other decorations celebrating the different staff and faculty.
For first year medical students like Jose Olascoaga, he says this week is a perfect opportunity for students to show donors and all those who make the center possible how much they appreciate their work and commitment.
"We're all very passionate about how great this school is, and as soon as I was asked to be able to help, I jumped on the opportunity because the school does a lot of great things for us," said Olascoaga. "It provides a ton of incredible resources and it just feels very good to be able to participate and give back and give our time back to the school because they've given us so much."
