LUBBOCK, TX -- A video from the Thursday's Texas Tech football practice showing Coach Kingsbury and some players in a dance off has hundreds of thousands of views in the first day.
"We're excited for the amount of attention it's gotten, we've had a lot of phone calls all day of folks wanting to get it," Blayne Beal with Texas Tech Athletics said.
When asked about how he would describe Coach Kliff Kingsbury as a coach, Beal describes Coach Kingsbury as relatable, not only for his players, but fans as well.
"For our fan base, that's a tremendous sense of pride, they remember cheering for him, and they pull for him, and they want him to succeed probably more so than any other coach that you could have here, because he's one of them," Beal said.
After setting a student attendance record during Coach Kingsbury's first season, plus more records during baseball and basketball season, Beal said for football at least, that could have a little to do with Kingsbury.
"When you look across the country and you look at the declining attendance and you look at how our student body is responding around our teams, I think the enthusiasm that he's brought is tremendous," Beal said.
Even though Tech has changed their licensing agreement to limit when or where Kingbury's image or name can be used, Beal said Kingsbury is still a big part of how the football program looks, especially when it comes to recruiting.
"We make sure that he's front and center, but the great thing about coach kingsbury is that he understands that the program is about his players. and that's where he wants the focus to be," Beal said.
