LUBBOCK, TX - Nominated by Congressman Randy Naugebauer, the Whiteface Antelope High School band has been chosen to march in the National Memorial Day Parade in Washington D.C., it's one of only two bands from Texas and out of 40 from across the country.
Stephanie Young and her twin brother Jeff are both seniors in the band, they've been in the band all four years of high school.
"I was surprised, as a small school sure we made it to state and it's a blessing to actually be here and to be recognized by the Congressman," Young said.
Eighth grader Blade Henry plays the saxophone, and this is his first year to be in the band. He said it's been a lot of hard work to get prepared for the parade.
"You go to marching practice during the summer, then you have your marching season so you're continuously doing that and then you have your contest," Henry said. "Then those last few days of practice, and practice for this parade,"
Dan Mac, known as "Mr. Mac" to the band students, has been the director for over 20 years.
"It's surprising and it's been such a humbling thing because who knows about Whiteface?" Mac said.
The students all expressed how grateful they were for the community to help them fundraise for the trip. If you're interested in watching the live stream of the parade, go to: Military.com
