LUBBOCK, TX--The 911 caller who witnessed the deadly accident that took the life of Mikaly Leyva, 2, spoke out Sunday.

Police said Mikaly was crossing the street Saturday afternoon when she was run over by a 2008 Nissan Armada driven by a 14-year-old girl who had two 8-year-old children with her in the vehicle.  Police have not yet said what charges the teenage girl or her family might face.

“I just saw the little girl on the floor and then the mom holding the little girl crying for help,” said the man who called 911.  He did not want to be named or shown on camera.

“Then I made the 911 call letting them know that we need emergency assistance here,” he said.

The 911 caller also said he saw a man break the back glass of the Nissan to get the driver to stop.  Witnesses said the 14-year-old has worked in the nearby flea market, and that her family is well connected in the neighborhood.

Another eyewitness recorded iPhone video that she said depicts the teenage driver being led away from the accident by an adult man before police could arrive.

“You know as a parent it is kind of sad to see this. I have a 3-year-old daughter as well and I could only imagine what life would be like without her,” the 911 caller said.

“It’s sad, not just for the little girl, but for the girl that hit her. She is going to have a different view of life.  So, it is a pretty sad tragedy.”
