LUBBOCK, TX - EverythingLubbock.com acquired an image of the fake bomb which triggered an alert on the campus of Texas Tech. The person who provided the image asked to remain as a confidential source.
Before 2:30 on Monday afternoon, the suspicious device was located near Talkington Hall on the campus of Texas Tech. An alert was issued on the campus and people were asked to avoid the area until the Lubbock Police Department bomb squad could remove the suspicious device.
Tech gave the all-clear just before 5:00 p.m. Monday. The bomb squad took the fake bomb to the Lubbock Police Academy to analyze it there.
A little more than 30 minutes after the campus was put on alert, someone used a suspicious package to rob Happy State Bank at 19th Street and Quaker Avenue.
Police on Monday said the two situations might be related. But that was still not confirmed on Tuesday.
Both the fake bomb at Tech and the suspicious package at the bank were inert, according to police. That means they weren’t real bombs.
As for the bank robbery, police said on Monday, “The suspect was last seen headed west bound on a bicycle.”
“The suspect is described as a white male in his late 20’s, or early 30’s. He has a beard and was last seen wearing a ski hat and sunglasses,” police also said on Monday.
As of Tuesday afternoon the suspect was still on the run. No injuries were reported in either incident.
