County to Consider Day of Fasting & Prayer for Rain

LUBBOCK, TX -- Lubbock County Commissioners on Monday morning might declare March 10 as “a Day of Prayer and Fasting for Rain on the South Plains.” As of Saturday, Lubbock County had an average 472 on the KBDI drought index which is abnormally dry. It would have get up to 550 in order to be considered severely dry.

The Drought Monitor from several agencies of the federal government classified most of Lubbock County last week as suffering from extreme drought. According to KAMC 28 Chief Meteorologist Ron Roberts, Lubbock has received 0.17 inches of precipitation; the normal would be 1.65 inches.

Lubbock ended 2013 more than six inches below for yearly rainfall.
