LUBBOCK, TX -- Lubbock County will pay the City of Lubbock $148,658 for mosquito control this summer. The deal still needs City Council approval on Thursday.

“The City agrees to provide the County six applications,” public records said. “If additional applications are needed the County shall pay the direct cost for each additional application.”

One of the concerns with mosquitos is the spread of West Nile virus which killed 13 people in Texas last year. Lubbock, Floyd and Gaines Counties each reported one death respectively from West Nile which can only be transmitted to humans from infected mosquitos.
