LUBBOCK, TX (NEWS RELEASE) - Dan Epstein will officially announce his candidacy for US Congress, Texas 19th District at the Tim Cole Memorial Park on the corner of 19th Street and University on Monday, April 3, 2017 at 6 pm, Q & A to follow.
Epstein earned his PhD in government from Harvard University and currently teaches political science at Texas Tech University. He is a volunteer with the Lubbock Democratic Party, worked as a staffer on the Bernie Sanders campaign, and taught at Colgate University and the Piedmont Virginia Community College.
Working for Bernie, Epstein learned a lot about running a grassroots campaign, and he learned that he loved talking to voters about their priorities and concerns. After the devastating election this past November, in which the Republican party nominees in Lubbock faced no Democratic opposition for Congress, state senate, or state house, Epstein felt he must answer Barack Obama's call: "We have to show up everywhere." In a district like this, it's going to be a tough race, but having worked with voters in rural Virginia, Epstein is not intimidated by the challenges of running in one of the most conservative districts in the state. He intends to lead with the help and support of his neighbors, the most organized, energized grassroots campaign this part of West Texas has seen in many years.
